Accessibility - Part of Those Necessary and Elemental Standards

James Edwards over at Sitepoint makes an excellent point about Accessibility - that making sites accessible is simply part of a designer's/developer's job... Any professional should be working with recognised web standards - and these, as a matter of course, include Accessibility standards... Sadly, some developers are still whining about the cost [the extra work? - come on!] of making their work accessible - which surely is a very dated and weak argument...

According to James, these arguments:
...generally follow a familiar pattern, taking a peculiarly American line in favour of market forces determining everything, and criticizing any idealistic intentions as political-correctness gone mad.

No, Accessibility is not political correctness gone mad - just compliance with internationally accepted standards!
